Meet the Dude Behind the Dust

Justin McNabb spent most of his early years surrounded by Legos, Lincoln Logs, K'nex, Construx, and any other building set a kid could get his hands on in the 90's. He didn't know it at the time, but his knack for making could be traced back several generations as his mother came from a long line of craftsmen and women of all types. As he grew older, he continued to enjoy building things as a hobby but never considered it as a career path

Instead, Justin gravitated toward his father's family tradition by joining the military at the age of 19. While serving in the US Air Force, he started dabbling in woodworking and began compiling a small arsenal of tools. Over the following decade that arsenal and his passion for the craft grew, but only to the extent that his free time allowed as he focused on his post-military career in the Veterans Service Industry.

Without the time to dedicate to the craft, Justin didn't have the confidence to share his work and certainly never imagined paying the bills with it. When family and friends would ask what it was that he made in his woodshop, his go-to response was "a whole lot of sawdust!"

Finally in 2025, after spending nearly 15 years behind a desk wishing he was behind a workbench, he took the plunge to turn his hobby into a jobby. He enrolled in the Residential Carpentry Program at Delaware County Communituy College and started The Summer Street Sawdust Company.
